Sometimes we all just need a little change, and this wall in my breakfast nook got one today. I swapped out a large framed chalkboard for some antique drying racks. When we first moved into our home I didn't have a huge budget for furniture or decor so I made what little I had work. This chalkboard was something I had, we used it in our wedding, and when we moved in our house I hung it up. I remember taking a piece of chalk and drawing a wreath on it when I first hung it. Later I added a real wreath- a magnolia wreath. But I left the chalk boarder I drew around the edges.
Our home has changed so much since we moved in and I love how the style as evolved into a homey collected feel. Because, well... it was collected over time. Decorating a whole house can be expensive. So we simply took it a room at a time. And I'm still adding stuff here and there and making changes. Thats what I love about decorating- nothing is permanent. You can change things out, move things around, and truly curate your style as you can budget for it.
I love how these drying racks lightened the space. Well I call them drying rack. The first two I ever came across are the ones now hanging on my shiplap accent wall in my living room. I was told when I bought those they were old plant drying racks. Then I found two more that now reside in my master bedroom behind our nightstands- that person wasn't sure what they were. Then the last couple I picked up the guy told me they were quail egg trays. So I guess they were used for many different things- even sorting green beans as a follower commented once. But that goes to show that back in the day people made multiple uses for things. I love pieces like this, that bring such amazing conversations. I love the time worn wood and how the ends have a little metal badge made for labeling whatever was in them.
Now I'm thinking about adding some curtains and rug to make this little space more cozy. Industrial black metal rod and some DIY drop cloth curtains??? Yup thats what I'm thinking, and it will be budget friendly. And of course I will probably do a jute rug. You all know me and my jute rugs- might as well make it 9. -- Read my jute rug review {HERE}.
