Breakfast Nook Update: I added "french" linen curtains.

February 9, 2017 Kayla Miller
Farmhouse Style Breakfast Nook with Linen Curtains

No space is ever "done" in my home and I always have about 10 projects going on at once. I know I have been talking about redoing our master bath for months. But unfortunately I just don't have the budget for it right now, and I don't want to be forced to cut corners just because of budget. So I'm just waiting until l have the budget for what I want.

But while I'm waiting on that to happen I get side tracked with smaller "less expensive" things I can do- like adding curtains to the breakfast nook. This whole project cost less than $100. Before you know it I will redo my entire house waiting on that budget for the master bath.

And now that I have started making changes in the breakfast nook, I'm finding more things I can do in this little area to cozy it up a bit. Our breakfast nook is right off our kitchen which I desperately want to redo as well. And I honestly think I could redo our kitchen for a pretty small budget. Do y'all see where this is going.... Breakfast nook....kitchen.... remove a wall here.... new light fixture there... it's like the domino effect.

So for now, I have decided to put the master bath on hold till summer, and possibley start on a "very small" kitchen/breakfast nook renovation. Because that is more in my budget at this time.

I'll start by explaining what I want to add to the breakfast nook. Like I said before, our breakfast nook is a small jut out off our kitchen. I really want to add a raw wooden beam across the ceiling where the jut out begins. And then SHIPLAP the ceiling. You knew I had the throw in shiplap somewhere. I think this will add a nice custom look to this little space.

Then in the kitchen I want to paint the cabinets, add a custom wood vent hood, backsplash, and new floors. I recently saw where my friend Lindsay of "Arataria Home" painted her entry way floors and it looks amazing!! She did it with a stencil and paint.. You have to see it! Here is a link to her post - {Click HERE}. This would be way more budget friendly than buying all new floors for our kitchen. And I could always replace down the road if I wanted to.

I can paint the cabinets, and build the hood, and if I paint the floors I foresee this being a really budget friendly makeover. I guess it's just finding the time to do all these things.

Well, those are my plans. It might be months before they are done, but I hope to do it all soon. I seriously love a good home project. There might be a lot of wishing it was done during the process, and a couple swear words, but what I love are the moments after you are done and you just sit and stare at all you have accomplished.

So here are all the details and sources for our little breakfast nook:

These curtains have such a great linen texture and are way more affordable than others that I found. Also this industrial pipe curtain rod is way cheaper than buying the piping from a hardware store and making it yourself. I always use curtain clips for a more industrial look and for a little added length.
